Patti Ronai Bastable
February 8, 1951-July 19,2009
Through His loving arms God brought Patti into heaven for eternity on July 19, 2009.
Patti was born in Kansas City, MO on February 8, 1951 to her parents Sterling and Ruth Ronai who had moved to Kansas City from New York and West Virginia. Patti walked to school from her home near Brookside at 65th and Summit where she grew up and went to Border Star Elementary and Southwest High School. Patti attended the University of Missouri and become member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was a graduate of Housing Design in the School of Engineering. Patti met her husband Jack her sophomore year on a blind date and it was instant love. After graduation, Patti and Jack were married on September 8, 1973 they lived a story book life and romance together, just like the romantic movies they would watch together and hundreds of novels Patti enjoyed reading.
Patti and Jack’s life together was immeasurably blessed with three wonderful children, Rachel, Aaron, and Jordan and two grandchildren Anabel and Rory who adored their mother and grandmother they affectionately called “G”. Although Patti had many talents, her family was always most important and she devoted her life in a completely unselfish way. Patti was a woman with many talents; her endeavors included running business, designing homes, interior design, party planning, nutritional culinary catering, and jewelry making. Patti shared Jack’s passion for healthy living and was very active in fitness and sports. Patty particularly enjoyed walking, hiking, and playing tennis with Jack which they did thousands of times during their 36 year story book marriage.
In her roles as Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Patti lived her life to the fullest each day. Patti had a constant smile. She was an angel that lived for the moment. Her positive attitude was a reflection of her faith and love for Jesus Christ. Because of the way Patti lived, she was an inspiration to anyone she met. Patti loved dogs and she and Jack had many over the years. Their most recent was a black Woodle they named Carbie.
Patti was unique and unconventional in almost everything she did. Patti’s creativity allowed her to do or learn anything, and because of that she was always reinventing herself. During her last year on earth she went through what she called her “repurposing” stage in life. She pursued all the things that made her the happiest. Patti loved spending more time with her children and her granddaughter Anabel. She was with her daughter Rachel when she gave birth to her new grandson Rory on July 15. Patti was able to design all kinds of jewelry including the ring she wore as her weeding band. She was also able to expand and reacquaint her skills as an excellent chef, equestrian, and gardener. She was also able to do one of the things she loved the most, going to the farmers market and preparing exquisite feasts for her family which was a talent she passed along to hers son’s Aaron and Jordan.
Patti is survived by her husband Jack Bastable, daughter Rachel Capstack and husband Scott, son Aaron Bastable and wife Megan and son Jordan Bastable, granddaughter Anabel, grandson Rory, sister Michele Goldman and husband Michael, sister Jill Shurin and husband Leland, and brother Jack Ronai and wife Aliana.
