Patricia Ann Hattaway, 85, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on October 30, 2021 after a struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Patricia was born on St Patrick’s Day, 1936 to Richard and Marianne O’Neil in Kansas City, Kansas. After Patricia graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1955, she went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Education at the University of Kansas, becoming a licensed teacher in both Kansas and Missouri.
Patricia worked in the Kansas City area as an elementary teacher before returning to the University of Kansas to get her Master’s degree in Education. Subsequent to that, as part of a family move abroad, she taught special education at the Cairo American College in Cairo, Egypt.
While living in Egypt, Patricia enjoyed travel (visiting over 50 countries) and immersing herself in other cultures. Upon her return to Kansas, Patricia continued to follow such passions, teaching ESL in the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley school districts, and being involved with People to People, and the City of Leawood’s sister city program with I-Lan, Taiwan. Patricia enjoyed growing flowers, was an active member of her church, and an avid bridge and mahjong player.
Patricia is survived by her sister, Dorothy, and her 2 sons, Brian and Brett, and their children.
Services will be held in the Wesley Covenant Chapel at the Church of the Resurrection at 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224 on November 8 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, www.curealz.org.
