Ms. Patricia Riley

January 2, 1933 — February 27, 2016

Patricia Viola Bartlett Riley, 83, went home to be with her Lord on February 27, 2016.  She was born January 2, 1933 in Bonner Springs, KS and graduated from Olathe High School in 1951.  She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, and Great-grandmother and a friend to many.  Patricia professed Christ as her personal Savior on March 2, 1958, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kansas City, KS.  She dedicated her life to serving God and leading others to Christ.  She would ask everyone she came in contact with if they knew the Lord as their Savior.  When her five children were young she volunteered at their school, Oak Grove Baptist School, and Vacation Bible School, and Camp Sagmount in Missouri.

Patricia was a Kansas girl but fell in love with California when she lived there for 5 years.  Her first child was born at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA.  She loved walking barefoot on the beach, watching the waves, and listening to the sea gulls.  She did move back to Kansas where she lived for the rest of her life but always missed California.

Patricia was an entrepreneur and started several small businesses.  She love arts and crafts and started her company, Hearts and Bears.  She was the manager at Baskin Robbins for fifteen years.  She was also known for showing love for animals her entire life.  One of her favorite childhood memories was walking her pet chicken down to the railroad tracks to meet her Daddy when he got off of work.  She loved visits from her family and their various pets who came often to brighten her days.  She in return would brighten their days.  She always wanted to keep up with her family and always to make sure to "check in" with her.  She kept them all informed of what she was doing with frequent phone calls or messages.  She always remembered birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays and would always call or leave a message with a song or scripture so you would know that you were in her thoughts and prayers.

Patricia has always loved cars and even knew how to work on them.  She was known in Shawnee for driving a little too fast in her blue Olds Cutlass.  She was a huge Nascar fan her whole life.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. was her favorite driver.  She was so excited when Jr. won a race that she said she almost fell out of her wheelchair.

Patricia was a member of North Overland Park Baptist Church for many years and loved her church and her church family.   She and her family have made lifelong friends at the church.  Although the church has since then been sold, everyone kept in touch with Patricia and her family.

She will be remembered for her lighthearted nature, goofy personality, and the way she made everyone laugh.  She believed in forgiveness and her life was an example of that.  She made a huge impact on everyone she met and will be greatly missed.

Patricia was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Viola and Arney Bartlett. Patricia is survived by three aunts, Fannie Eaton, Hazel Klotz, and Ethel Cellars.  She has three boys, Dave Riley (Linda), Rick Riley (Laura), and Dan Riley (Shelly).  She has two daughters, Rhonda Turski (Ken) and Rashell Guess (Mike). She has 12 Grandchildren, Josh Turski (Sara), Brian Turski, Garrett Turski, Kendra Parmerlee (Chad), Curtis Riley (Erika), Ross Riley, Cody Riley, Kylie Guess, Taylor Guess, Michalyn Guess, Jaime Crook (Gary) and Aaron Guess (Dana).  She has 9 Great-grandchildren, Tiffany Turski, Keziah Parmerlee, Elias Parmerlee, Judah Riley, Dillon Guess, Aubrey Guess, Andrew Crook, Sarah Crook, and Jackson Crook.

Over her lifetime Patricia battled several health issues.  She fought to stay strong for her children.  She recently told her children that she knew it would be hard for them but she was ready to meet Jesus and go home to see her Mother and Daddy.  On February 27, 2016 at 8:56 a.m., while she was surrounded by her family, Patricia answered God's call and went home.
