PATRICK ANTHONY O'MALLEY of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on April 5, 2014.
Pat was born in Philadelphia, PA to Helene and Thomas O'Malley on June 22, 1942. He graduated from Benedictine Academy in Richmond, VA in 1960 and Villanova University in 1964 with a degree in Economics. Pat went on to earn an M.B.A. and a PhD.
Pat entered the U.S. Marine Corps while still in college, earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant upon college graduation. Pat ultimately became a Captain, and was highly decorated as a result of heroic actions in Viet Nam, including three Purple Hearts during his service. He also became an 8th degree Black Belt in Kenpo karate.
Pat and Lynne were married in 1965 in Richmond, VA. The family lived in Dallas, TX; Northfield, MN and Overland Park, KS where Pat opened his own career management firm, Career Dynamics. Pat also taught business classes at Baker University.
Pat's hobbies included coaching his children in sports, teaching karate, sailing, golf, and spending time with family. In addition to his wife Lynne, he is survived by daughter, Karen (David) Mathes of Overland Park, KS; sons, Patrick T. (Debbie) O'Malley of Wichita, KS and Michael O'Malley (Leah Mathison) of Austin, TX. Pat's six grandchildren include, Connor, Katie, and Nicholas Mathes of Overland Park, KS and Alexis, Michael, and Matthew O'Malley of Wichita, KS.
A funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Ascension Catholic Church, 9510 W. 127th Street, Overland Park, KS 66213. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. before funeral Mass at Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, 909 N. Washington Street, Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314.
