Patrick Edward Smythe, 79 of Overland Park, KS passed away on Friday, August 7, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12 at D. W. Newcomer Funeral Chapel at 112th and Metcalf. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Cygne, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Abdallah Shrine Temple or Kansas City Christian Schools.
Pat was born on June 19, 1930 in Kansas City, MO to Raymond and Jewell Smythe. Pat attended Kansas State University where he received his Masters degree and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He married Betty “Joan” Rorabaugh on June 1, 1952. Pat proudly served as an officer in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
Pat is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Phil Achten and two grandchildren Nick and Alex, all of Prairie Village, KS; and his sister, Jeanne Peterson of Spring, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan.
