Paul Bennett, 59, passed away on June 10, 2013 at his home due to a heart attack. A visitation will be held Wednesday, June 12, at The Church of Resurrection, Wesley Chapel in Leawood from 6:30 – 8 PM. The funeral service will be Friday, June 14 at 9:30 AM at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf in Overland Park. Paul was born on July 14, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Earline Bennett Nims and Robert Bennett. Following high school, he worked at UCLA where he met the love of his life, Susan Parsell, and they were married in 1976. They had two children, Jeffrey and Jennifer, and moved to Kansas in 1985. Paul worked for Continental Health Care Systems until 1994 when he opened Harvest Moon Natural Foods in Olathe. He served on the board of the National Nutritional Foods Association for over ten years, four of which he was the President. Paul was a very giving and generous person who supported many charitable organizations in the Kansas City community. He was very active in Ozanam and Braden's Hope For Childhood Cancer volunteering numerous hours working toward the missions of those organizations. Paul loved traveling, flying, going to sporting events, cooking, music, gardening, and spending time at Casa de Papa. His greatest joy in life was being active in the lives of his grandchildren Nicole, Jacob, Allie, and Paxton. He enjoyed watching Nicole, 12, play soccer. He and Nicole also loved watching scary movies, cooking, and Nicole loved eating his bananas every morning. He and his grandson Jacob, 8, loved to light fireworks together. He enjoyed watching Jacob play soccer, attending his chess tournaments, going on bike rides and flying with him. His granddaughter Allie, 4, loved playing tea party with him, painting his nails, snuggling, and singing together with Allie telling him "again" time after time. He and Paxton enjoyed snuggling, "pounding it" and a game of peek-a-boo. He is survived by his wife, Susan, son Jeff Bennett, and daughter Jenny Grindel; their spouses Andrea Bennett and Jason Grindel; his grandchildren Nicole, Jacob, and Allie Grindel and Paxton Bennett; his mother Earline Nims of Ogden, Utah; his three brothers Ken Bennett, Dan "Boones" Bennett, Chris Alexander; two sisters Dana Slaughter and Laurie Jensen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is proceeded in death by his brother Alan Bennett and sister Aleatha (DeeDee) Bennett. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Braden's Hope (BradensHope.org).
