Paul C. Gilbert, 94, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Feb. 13, 2015. Paul was born on Nov. 1, 1920 in Garland MO to Gwyn & Julia Gilbert. He had four sisters, Anna, Gwendolyn, Mary Ruth and Lucille. He graduated in 1939 from Deepwater, MO high school. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps.
In 1943, he married Joyce Goff. Paul is survived by daughters Nancy (Russ) Hansen of Overland Park and Susan Gilbert (Ron Schechter) of Takoma Park, MD. Grandchildren are Amber Paul of Overland Park, Andrew Paul of Roeland Park, Matthew (Elizabeth) Schechter of Durham NC and Peter Schechter (fiancé Ali Travers) of Austin, TX. Great grandchildren are Sam Schechter & Alexandra Schechter, also of Durham, NC. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and wife.
Paul was a homebuilder in Johnson County for more than 40 years. He especially enjoyed watching Royals baseball and KU basketball. As a younger man, he enjoyed hunting & bowling with his friends at Trinity Lutheran Church.
We want to express extreme gratitude and thanks to the staff & residents at Overland Park Place where Paul lived the past five years. Their kindness, caring & thoughtfulness can never be repaid. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Indoor Courtyard of Memories, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Paul’s name to Ducks Unlimited, a waterfowl conservation organization with operations in the Marais des Cygnes KS wildlife area where Paul and his church friends hunted
