Paul Stewart McKie of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 93.

He was a cattle rancher, whose Tailgate Ranch won the National Finals Ranch Rodeo in 1992 and was The Beef Improvement Federation Beef Producer of the year in 2003. Paul was the last volunteer President and first Board Chairman of the American Royal after serving many years at Chairman of the Livestock Show. He was also a member of the Nebraska Club, Mission Hills Country Club, the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the Vanguard Club, and the Man of the Month Club.

Born in Page County, Iowa, he was raised in Dunlap and Red Oak, Iowa. Paul was a proud graduate of the University of Nebraska and a Trustee of its University Foundation. He was a Marine Corps jet aviator (1953-1956), a member of the Tailhook Association, and the Globe and Anchor Society.

He leaves his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Merriman McKie, whom he asked to marry on their first date. He is also survived by his daughters Linda Sue Johnson (Bryan), Sara Elizabeth Lewis (Ralph), and Paula Jo Longan (John), all of Johnson County, Kansas; his grandchildren Ada Johnson Sutherland (Robert), Beck Johnson, Elizabeth Lewis Shieber (Loren), Paul Lewis (Elizabeth), George Lewis (Sara), Mary Elizabeth Longan, Jack Longan (Daniella), Bonnie Longan, and Ian Longan; and nephews Doug Sharpe (Mary), Greg Sharpe (Amy), and Michael Sharpe (Brenda). He also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren, and a life filled with blessings.

Private graveside service and internment at Tailgate Ranch, Tonganoxie, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions on Paul’s behalf be made to the American Royal Association (1701 American Royal Court, Kansas City, MO 64102; americanroyal.com) or the Tailhook Association (tailhook.net).
