Paul Salchow Jr.

September 21, 1929 — May 2, 2015

Paul J. Salchow, Jr., 85, of Olathe, KS, was called home to his Lord early on the morning of May 2, 2015.  He was born in Hampton, NE, September 21, 1929, eldest son of Paul and Bessie Ward Salchow.  He married Ruth Patricia Beck in Fremont, NE, July 5, 1958.  She preceded him in death in 1979.  His parents, Paul and Bessie, stepmother Grace, and sister Shirley Hicks preceded him in death also.  In 1982 he and Dottie Sommers married, creating a merged family.  He is survived by his wife, Dottie; daughter Anne Swindale (Gene); sons Paul II (Lori) and Pete; stepdaughter Jennifer Schneider (John); grandchildren Tabitha Salchow, Emma Salchow, Sam Schneider, Hillary Schneider, and Ethan Schneider; great-grandson Charlie Schneider; brothers Bob (Lois), Larry (Judy), and Ken (Judy); sister Marlene Head; brothers-in-law Marc Beck (Peggy), Bob Armstrong, Marion Mifflin (Wanda), and Don Hedges (Jewel); sisters-in-law Ginny Beck and Joan Hedges; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Paul graduated from Ogallala High School, Ogallala, NE, in 1947.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served on submarine tenders and in the Aleutian Islands, AK, and was discharged in 1952, after which he went to work for AT&T in North Platte, NE.  After serving in North Platte, he transferred to Kansas City, and in l985 was transferred to Atlanta, GA, where he retired after 36 years of service.  After retiring to acreage near Warrensburg, MO, he and Dottie moved to Olathe in 2000.
Paul was a lifelong Lutheran, and he and Dottie were members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Olathe.  Memorial service time may be found at www.JohnsonCountyFuneralChapel.com.  The memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church.  The family appreciates all prayers, love, and support from family and friends.
