Paul J. Schmitt, Jr. passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2008.
Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, Oct. 18 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7500 Oak Street, Kansas City, MO. Entombment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Indoor Mausoleum. Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Friday, Oct. 17 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ?Paul J. Schmitt Jr. Memorial Fund? at Calvary Lutheran Church.
Paul was born on February 16, 1927 in Atchison, Kansas to Paul and Corina Schmitt. He has resided in Kansas City since 1957. For 81 years, Paul lived a life of selfless service, as a Christian, a loving husband to Joan, a guiding father to four sons and seven grandchildren.
As a stalwart member of Calvary Lutheran Church he served tirelessly as a youth sports coach, scout leader, pipe organ fund raiser, Sunday School Superintendent, congregational president and elder, and an enthusiastic supporter of Christian education in the Lutheran School System of Kansas City. He married his high school sweetheart on October 15, 1950 and adored taking care of her for 58 years of marriage. Taking care of home and family was his greatest joy in life. He worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Electronic Data Systems until retirement then found great pleasure in comforting the bereaved by another 15 years with D.W. Newcomers & Sons until he became ill.
Paul is survived by his wife Joan, children Philip (Kristen), Roger (Susan), Robert (Myrna) and Thomas (Mary), and seven grandchildren, Alexis, Erika, Abbey, Ethan, Callie, Anna, and Robert.
