Paul Schonbachler

Paul M. Schonbachler, 80, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Oct. 30, 2016. Paul was born May 5, 1936 in Wilkinsburg PA, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa., Son of Joe and M Katheryn Sampson Schonbachler. He graduated 2nd in his class from Wilkinsburg High School in 1954. He went on to attended Penn State University a member of Phi Delta Theta Paul graduated in 1959 with a Dairy Science Degree. He began an illustrious 36-year career Nov 1959 with Hallmark Cards originally as a territorial sale person eventually becoming a Regional VP for Ambassador Cards it included stops in Fairmount WV, Union Town PA, Pittsburg PA., Omaha NB, Chicago IL, Leawood KS, Atlanta Ga. Then upon Retirement in June 1996 moved back to the Kansas City Area (Bucyrus KS).

Even though retired Paul was not done yet he became a Master Gardner and spent 20 +years volunteering with the Miami County Extension Service. Paul also spent 18+ years as a transport Volunteer at St Joseph’s Hospital as well as well as active member of Stillwell United Methodist Church. When not volunteering, Paul was an active gardener, golfer and sports fan including the Nittnay Lions, Steelers and Chiefs.

Paul was a kind generous caring person who placed friends and family first he enjoyed a good cold beer, cheeseburger, a fine cigar and single malt scotch.

Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years Alicia Pettes, son Daniel Paul Schonbachler of Lawrence, KS, daughter Susan Alicia Morris husband Todd of Denver Colo., daughter-in-law Joyce Rose Schonbachler of Shawnee KS., sister Barbara Brawley of Virginia Beach, Va., numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at Stillwell United Methodist Church located at 19335 Metcalf Ave. Stillwell Ks 66085 on Saturday Nov. 5, visitation from 1:00-2:00 Service at 2:00 p.m. The family asks that you wear blue and white in Paul’s honor and support of the Penn State Nittany Lions.
The family will also host a celebration of life on Sunday Nov, 6 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. in the common room at Silvercrest Deer Creek Senior Living located at 13060 Metcalf Ave., in Overland Park.
