Paula Kaye Kramer died on March 7th 2015 at her home in Basehor, Kansas surrounded by loved ones. Paula was born November 17th 1950 in Ponca City, OK., the only child of Paul and Irene Plumer. Two years after the death of her Father in 1962, Paula and Irene moved to Tulsa Ok., where Paula later graduated from Memorial High School in 1969. She graduated with a BA in vocal performance from the University of Kansas in 1973, where she also met her future husband DuWayne Kramer Jr. DuWayne and Paula were married in Tulsa, OK on May 19th of the same year.
Paula was preceded in death by her father Paul; mother Irene Rutledge and stepfather Homer Lee Rutledge. She is survived by her husband DuWayne Kramer Jr., their children David Kramer of Kansas City, KS and Dr. Kelli Kramer-Jackman and husband Steve of Shawnee, KS, and grandchild Stella Jackman. Paula’s selfless, nurturing personality and peaceful way will be sorely missed and long remembered by all she knew and whom she loved.
Paula had many roles during her life time. She taught voice lessons at local high schools, catholic grade schools, and at the college level. Paula sang professionally for decades in local Synagogues, Catholic, Protestant, and Christian Science churches. She performed with the Kansas City Singers and other vocal groups, locally, and abroad in England, Germany, and Italy. Paula also served as president of the local Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) music fraternity for women, and as their regional province officer. She also severed on multiple boards of philanthropic organizations in the arts community.
Additionally, Paula served as an officer, and president of the Junior League of Johnson and Wyandotte County. She also worked in various fields through the decades, ending her career as vice president of Burke Inc. a medical products manufacturer.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 11, at 10 AM at the same location with burial immediately following in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
