Peter M. Gerba, 81, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, of Overland Park, KS passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on January 23, 1927 to Nikola and Danica Gerba. He attended primary school in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from Wyandotte High School, class of 1945. Following graduation, he entered the work force and began a successful sales career in the trucking and transportation industry. After many years he retired as a freight solicitor from Santa Fe Trails Truck Lines.
Peter was a long-time member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church and was involved in a wide range of activities including playing in the church orchestra along with his brothers, Joe and Don. His other passions included traveling, summers at the pool, good times spent with long-time friends, and love of is family.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Joe and Donald; and his sister, Mary Conley. He is survived by his loving wife of forty years, Shirley Gerba; daughter and son-in-law, LeeAnn and Dustin Melton; two granddaughters, Lindsey Nicole and Emily Elizabeth (whom he lovingly referred to as his Princesses); daughter, Kim Scott; sons, Ryan and Blake Burton and Austin Scott; brother, Bob; sisters, Helen Stonestreet, Mel Tahan, Louise Richardson, Beverly Douglas, Dorothy Coburn and her husband Don; many special nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his long-time friends Michael & Jean Miller and family, Bernie McKeone, and Chuck McGee.
A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 12th at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.
