Philip E. Winnard of Overland Park passed away suddenly on Friday, July 29, at age 55. Phil was born on December 17, 1955, to Walter and Phyllis (Johnson) Winnard. He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, attended college at the University of Maryland, and later graduated from George Washington University with a Master’s in Business Administration. He moved to Kansas in 1989 and worked for Sprint for over twenty years. He also taught business courses at Baker University and was a member of Heartland Christian Fellowship.
Phil leaves behind his wife, Leigh Ann, of the home, son Doug, daughter Diane, and stepson Matthew. He also leaves behind his sister Colette and brothers Victor, Peter, Benjamin, and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A beloved and devoted husband, father, and brother, Phil brought love and joy to everyone around him with his generous spirit and warm sense of humor. He was deeply passionate about fishing, American history, and the St. Louis Cardinals, but his greatest joys were always his family and friends. Phil was patient and he was kind; he never sang his own praises, but was first to sing the praises of others. He will be sorely missed.
