Reona ?Rae? Partain, 94, Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2008.
Reona was born on September 15, 1913 in Livingston County, KY. Shortly after high school she moved to California and worked in a supermarket. With the encouragement of her employer, she became an auditor and then advanced to become a manager in a meat brokerage office. She soon started her own business as a ?Meat Broker? and Sales Representative in the San Francisco area. In an industry that was dominated 99% by men, Reona made her way up the industry ladder to become one of the most successful Brokers in the San Francisco and Oakland Bay area. She often would personally inspect the shipments of boneless beef arriving from Australia and New Zealand. She would buy anywhere from 80 to 200 tons of beef and resell them to distributors across the United States. Rae enjoyed her life in the business world, but in 1976 she decided it was time to retire. Rae moved to Kansas in 1989 to be with her niece Iris Menezes and her family. She lived happily at the Atriums Retirement Home until her death.
Rae was preceded in death by her parents, Muriel and Vernon Mirse, sister Thelma Hudgens and her grand nephew Gregory Menezes. Rae is survived by her niece Iris Menezes and her husband Bill of Overland Park and many grand nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-3 PM Wednesday, January 30th at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial will be in Golconda, IL.
