G. Rex Allen, 84, Overland Park, passed away on May 22, 2018 at Lamar Court in Overland Park. Rex was born August 2, 1933 in Leavenworth, Kansas and spent his childhood in Kansas City, Kansas where he graduated from Rosedale High School in 1951. He then went on to college at Baker University in Baldwin City and graduated in 1955. Joining the Army after graduation he was stationed in Baumholder, Germany during his tour. Rex married Kay Arlene Fisher on January 28, 1956. His career consisted of Selling Real Estate, home builder and then to a residential Land developer before he retired. He loved to garden and won the “Gardener of the Year” award several times at his second home at Lake of the Ozarks. Rex was preceded in death by his wife, Kay in 2000, Brother, Joseph Allen and a sister, Virginia Apel. He is survived by a son, David Allen and his wife, Jennifer; daughter, Debra Didde and her husband, Michael; four grandchildren: Mark Didde and his wife Dana, Sarah Didde, Matthew Allen and his wife Rylie, and Olivia Allen. In September of 2017, Rex had the privilege to go on the Heartland Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and share this trip with his son David. Memorial contributions in memory of Rex may be given to St. Michaels’s and All Angels Episcopal Church, the Heartland Honor Flight, P.O. Box 12047, Kansas City, MO 64152 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 W. 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
