Rex Darnall Sr.

November 11, 1918 — June 24, 2015

Rex Stewart Darnall, Sr., Prairie Village, Kansas passed away June 24, 2015 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Rex was born and raised in Kansas City, MO by his mother, Crete Montgomery. He attended Westport High School and University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.  Rex later became the President of the Sigma Chi Alumni and was a long time member of K.C.C.C.   He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and served in North Korea as a 2nd Lieutenant and North Africa as a 1st lieutenant.

Rex met his wife, Janet Tschudy, in 1941 and they were married for 41 years.   They had three children, Susan, Stewart and Jeannette Darnall.  His life long career was as a builder, where he proudly built Bristol and Normandy Court. He was also a member of the Shawnee Mission Rotary, was the Mayor of Mission Hills and a council member for 18 years, as well as a longtime member of Jolly Timers Outdoor Club.  Mr. Darnall was an avid sportsman, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting.

He leaves his two children, Susan Stewart Darnall of Chicago, IL and Jeannette Tschudy Darnall of Tucson, AZ along with his grandchildren, Sandee, Jay and Thomas Darnall, all currently residing in the Kansas City area; as well as his two stepchildren from his second wife, Elaine Hickok; Anne McCarny and Tim Hickok, both of Kansas City, MO.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 19, 2015 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall, Kansas City, MO 64113.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Andrew’s Garden Guild.
