Richard Blaine Howell, 91, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park. Contributions may be made to the Heart of America Alzheimer’s Foundation, 3846 W 75th St, Prairie Village, KS 66208 or a charity of your choice.
Richard was born in Alliance, OH, and attended public schools there. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy, Rolla, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Blue Key National Honorary Fraternity, Theta Tau National Professional Engineering Fraternity and the American Society for Metals.
In World War II, he was a Navy Seabee and served with the 113th NCB in New Guinea and the Philippines.
Richard was employed by Bethlehem Steel Company for 35 years and served assignments in the Bethlehem, PA Plant, Tulsa Sales, St. Louis Sales and Kansas City Sales, where he retired as District Manager in 1983. He was a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, Overland Park, KS.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Howell; parents; brother; and granddaughter, Jennifer.
Richard is survived by three sons, Richard (Linda) Howell, Jr., of Tucson, AZ, Michael Howell, of Aurora, CO, and William (Sherie) Howell, of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Jan (Robert) Börk, of Fairfield, IA; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
