Richard E. (Dick) Jacobs, age 90, of Overland Park, KS, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013.
He was born on May 13, 1922, in Peoria, IL, to Elmer and Ethel Jacobs. Richard was the youngest of two children. He entered the pilot training program as a cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps, graduated and served as 2nd Lieutenant from November 1944 to December 1945. He was honorably discharged from the Air Corps after V-J Day and went to work for Portman's Sporting Goods store in Peoria, IL.
Richard married Carolyn (Pat) Everly in 1956 and soon after accepted a job as a field salesman with Rawlings Sporting Goods. After 16 years of dedication and numerous promotions, he became President of the Rawlings. In 1979, he accepted a position as President of Pioneer Cap Corporation, which brought his family to Kansas City. Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman, talented woodworker and enjoyed photography.
Richard will be remembered by his loving wife Pat, son Stewart and 3 daughters and their husbands: Pamela & Allen Sundberg, Cynthia & Charles Barkman, and Barbara & Jeffrey Murphy; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beautiful daughter, Willa Schaffer, and his brother, Robert Jacobs.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66212.
