Richard "Avi" Everett Seaver of Leawood, Kansas was born in Michigan in 1946.
Avi grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. Two of those formative years were spent with his family in Italy (1953) and in the Middle East (1964). He excelled at gymnastics in high school. Avi earned advanced degrees (in Theatre and Speech) from Washburn University, Kansas University, and PhD at Wayne State University Michigan. Subsequently, he taught Speech and Theatre at colleges in Kansas, South Dakota, Georgia, and Pennsylvania, and at high schools in the Kansas City area. He also directed and performed in many theatrical productions across the country throughout his lifetime, including a one-man tribute to Will Rogers. Avi was privileged to work at Picture and Frame Industries for several years and developed friendships with many employees. His passions included world-wide stamp collecting, bridge, birding, fly fishing, tennis, music, and the literary works of Patrick O'Brien and Alice Munro.
Avi's Christian commitment began at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lawrence, Kansas. He was married to Nancy Houx at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Missouri where he sang for years in their excellent choir and in whose church yard he will be interred.
Avi was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2009. Avi is survived by Nancy Houx Seaver (wife), Joshua (son), Gabriel (grandson), Virginia (mother), and Bill and Robert Seaver (brothers).
Avi wished to express his gratitude to the KU Cancer Center, Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, and all the friends and neighbors of Huntington Farms.
