Richard Shannon

December 13, 1926 — September 1, 2012

Richard Lee "Dick" Shannon passed away on September 1, 2012. He leaves his loving wife of 59 years, Norma, and their children Craig and Adele Shannon of Pella, IA, Kathleen and Thomas Sievert of Shawnee, KS and Scott and Maria Shannon of Overland Park, KD, as well as twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving is Dick's brother James Shannon of Pullman, WA, as well as a large extended family and many friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth O'Neil and his brother Donald Shannon who was killed during World War II.

Dick was born December 13, 1926 in Junction City, KS to Walter and Katherine Shannon. He graduated from Royal Oak High School and immediately enlisted in the army to serve in World War II. Following his enlistment, he graduated from Eastern Michigan University. He taught history at various schools, eventually earning his master's degree in School Administration at Whitworth College in Spokane, WA. Dick's first job as a school administrator was at a Christian school in Edmonton, Alberta. He went on to serve as administrator at schools in Colorado, Kansas, Iowa, Michigan and Arkansas. He found great fulfillment as an educator for over 40 years.

Dick treasured his beloved wife Norma and was deeply devoted to his entire family, but his first love was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He lived out his faith daily and was exemplary in his friendly demeanor, ever-present smile and unfailing kindness. Dick sought wholeheartedly to live in service to God in every area of his life and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
