Richard Carlson

October 18, 1943 — July 2, 2020

Branson

Richard William Carlson was born in Kansas City, Kansas on October 18th, 1943.  He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1961 and attended Rockhurst College night classes.  Richard began working at Shawnee Mission Post Office as a letter carrier and retired at the age of 48, as a supervisor with 30 years of experience.  He moved to Table Rock Lake and started working at the Port of Kimberling Marina for an additional 10 years.  Richard’s hobbies included bowling, riding his Harley Davidson, boating and water skiing, and spending time with his family.  He loved to travel by RV or motorcycle, specifically to Sturgis or Las Vegas.

Richard has been married to Nancy Fisher Carlson for 56 years.  They married at University Heights Christian Church in Kansas City, Missouri.  They lived in Olathe, Kansas prior to moving to Kimberling City, Missouri.  The couple shares two sons, David Brian Carlson and Todd Alan Carlson Sr.  Richard has 7 grandchildren; Felicia Dawn, Dalton David, Todd Alan, Karli Ann, Ashlyn Brooke, Dylan Michael, and Nicholas William along with 1 great-grandchild Quinn Winona, who was born on Richard’s birthday;  one sister, Linda Taylor; one brother, Clay Leisinger; and also cousins, nieces and nephews.  Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur William Carlson and Edna Maxine Carlson Leisinger and his stepfather, Jim Leisinger.  Richard’s family was his piece of heaven.  He could always be found attending events, driving them on the boat and showing them the lake life, completing daily chores around the house, fishing, riding go-karts, or playing board games.  There was nothing in the world that Richard loved more than his family, although desserts were a close second.  Richard also loved his 2 recent pups; Missy and Lady.

Richard died at home, peacefully, on July 2nd, 2020 of natural causes.  He belonged to the Parkinson Group of Southwest Missouri for support and exercise.  Richard would want to be remembered with positivity rather than sorrow, so we kindly ask you to take this time and remember how hard working and amazing of a man that Richard William Carlson is and will always be. Forever in our hearts, we love you.
