Rick Heinitz

May 26, 1962 — October 10, 2017

Rick "Woody" Heinitz, 55, of Overland Park, passed away on October 10, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House, from a tough 2-and-a-half-year battle with cancer, which he fought very hard for his son, Sam.

Rick was born May 26, 1962 in Kansas City, KS, to Sharon and Henry Heinitz. He went to Shawnee Mission North High School and then to Kansas State University where he graduated with a degree in Radio and Television.

Rick loved his music. He was a huge Rams fan and had been since the age of 5, but his greatest joy in life was his son, Sam.  They both loved spending time outdoors together and had a bond that can never be broken.
The family would like to thank Dr. Neupane, Lisa Parson, the staff at KU Cancer Center West, and the Kansas City Hospice House for their compassion during such a difficult time.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Henry L. Heinitz; and his aunt, Sandy Kelley.

Rick is survived by his son, Sam; his mother and step-father, Sharon and Larry Forbach; his aunts, Barbara Higgins (Pat) and Pam Breuer; uncle, Gerry Kelley; cousins, Mark Sanchez (Connie), Kerry Higgins (Lynda), Heidi Hill (Tim), and Gina Payton; along with many friends.

The family will carry out Rick’s wishes, as he was a no fuss guy, no services will be held. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to KU Cancer Center West, 2330 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Suite 305, Mailstop 5004, Westwood, KS 66205, or Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145.
