Riddelle L. Gregory, III, (Butch) 66, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.
Butch was a lifelong Kansas City resident. He graduated from Grandview High School in 1967 and earned a track scholarship to Southwest Missouri State University where he graduated in 1971. He competed in the mile at the Kansas Relays against Jim Ryun (the first runner to break the four minute mile) and finished second. He was a 1st Lt. in the United States Army Infantry with honorable discharge in 1981. He was also a private club owner in Overland Park, KS for 26 years.
Butch was laid back, selfless, kind hearted and ridiculously organized. He loved his family and friends, the Missouri Tigers, the Kansas City Royals, cars and his beloved cats. He took tremendous pride in his home and his back yard was a gorgeous retreat. He was generous to many charities and causes that were dear to his heart. Recently, Butch thoroughly enjoyed taking cooking lessons and reading about the culinary arts.
Butch is survived by his loving family and friends including:
Daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Geoff Burgess and their children Reagan and Gage Burgess.
Son and daughter-in-law Matthew and Kristi Gregory and their children Landon, Dylan and Isabella Gregory.
Sister Gail Cole; her son and daughter-in-law David and Rhonda Cole and granddaughters Autumn and Aubrie Cole.
Brother Skip Gregory.
Sister and brother-in-law Gloria and Mike Brinker; their son and daughter-in-law Nic and Rachel Brinker, grandson Xavier Brinker; son and daughter-in-law Paul and Shanna Brinker, grandchildren Nora and Luke Brinker; son John Brinker.
Brother John C. Hessler (preceded in death); his daughter Julie Hessler; daughter Lori Hessler, granddaughter Alize Hessler; daughter and son-in-law Kristi and Brandon Watt, granddaughters Paige and Haley Watt.
Brother Chris Hessler.
Sister Gretchen Evans; her daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Shawn Miner, granddaughter Olivia Miner; son and daughter-in-law Kurt and Brielle McGee; daughter Hannah Evans, grandson Aeden Melnechinko; son Alex Evans.
Dearest friend and neighbor Stephanie Davis.
He has joined in death his father, Riddelle L. Gregory II; mother Shirley Cooke; dad John M. Hessler and brother John C. Hessler.
