Rita Pitts

February 9, 1930 — March 29, 2009

Rita Norene Pitts left this world on March 29, 2009. She was reunited in heaven with her father and mother, Ralph and Jeannette Goodell; her brothers, Ralph and Mont; and her sisters, Jeanne and Jenny. She leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, Loren Pitts; her daughters, Cynthia Peters and Rebecca Freeland; her son, Loren Craig Pitts; along with 9 beautiful grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brothers, James Goodell and Jon Goodell; brother-in-law, Donald Pitts; son-in-laws, John Peters and Fred Freeland; daughter-in-law, Susan Pitts; 9 nephews, 4 nieces, and many loving family and friends.

Rita came into this world on February 9, 1930 and was a lifetime resident of the Kansas City area. She was a 1947 graduate of Paseo High School and worked for the FAA. Rita owned and operated Cherokee Fabric Center for 27 years. She carried on a proud family legacy and was a Daughter of the Mayflower, and Daughter of the American Revolution.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th, at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Anyone who wants to share a personal memory of Rita at the service is invited to do so. Private inurnment in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rita’s name be made to the American Lung Association, 4300 S.W. Drury Lane, Topeka, Kansas 66604. Arrangements, D. W.
