Rita Maureen (Kennedy) Tapp, 86, passed away April 3 at the Denver Hospice Center in Colorado. Rita was a long-time resident of Prairie Village, KS, and a long-standing member of Asbury Methodist Church.
She graduated from Argentine High School and gained employment at Jobbers Supply Company, KCMO, where she met her future husband, L.Z. “Tex” Tapp. Rita was a homemaker until 1965 when she and Tex became co-owners of K C Tool Warehouse, KCMO. When they sold K C Tool in 1988 and became semi-retired, Rita devoted the rest of her life to her family by contributing to the care and success of her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren. She will always be remembered as the “Reading Mother, Grandmother, and Grandma-Great” – her love for books enriched her entire family.
Rita was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Ethel Bath; her parents, Georgia and Herman Kennedy; her husband of 44 years, L.Z. “Tex” Tapp; all seven of her siblings and many of her dearest friends known as the “Rosewood Ladies” and her “circle” friends from Asbury.
Rita is survived by her children: Teresa Tapp, Ph.D. of Denver, CO, Zac (Jenni) Tapp of Long Boat Key, FL, and Josh (Brenae) Tapp of Shawnee, KS; her grandchildren: Jason (Fernando) Tapp, Anna (Steven) Steelfox, Andrew, Esq. (Morgan) Tapp, Sean (Rebecca) Tapp, Mastin Tapp, and Khael Tapp; and her great-grandchildren: Haylee, Kian, Mason, Sarah, Jace, Zoe, Clair, Logan, Micah, and Killian. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Deborah, RMA, (Dennis) Bancroft of Drums, PA., Saundra Faye Humphries of Overland Park, KS, and Brian (Monica) Tuell of Buckner, MO. One sister-in-law, Martha Meeks of Lowndes, MO, also survives Rita. Finally, Rita would want us to acknowledge the many adult “children” of her “Rosewood Ladies” friends. She always appreciated those “Rosewood” long-time friendships via letters, visits, and phone calls.
A private, family only, memorial service and interment for Rita will be held on Friday, September 1st at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, in Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to any of the following organizations: The Denver Hospice Center,
Denver, CO; Paws for Freedom, 18700 182nd Street, Tonganoxie, KS 66086; the Republican National Party; or your preferred charity.
