ROBERT A. (BOB) SANDER
Robert A. Sander, 91, of Overland Park, KS. passed away Monday September 20, 2010 at home. Visitation will be Friday September 24th 6-8 pm at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. A memorial service will be held Saturday September 25 at 3 pm at D.W Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel.
Bob was born July 4, 1919 to Irvin and Eleanor Sander in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, and received his degree in Business Administration from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He achieved the rank of Major in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in the Pacific theater in World War II.
Bob retired from Connecticut General Insurance (CIGNA) in 1985 after 18 years, with the honor of President’s Club-Honor Table and CLU designation. Prior to that, Bob and his beloved wife Ruth owned and operated the Vagabond Motel in Treasure Island, FL, following Bob’s distinguished career in sales, sales management and sales training.
Bob was a 32nd Degree Mason, Masonic Lodge #147, Dayton, Ohio, and a member of Scottish Rite-Tampa and Egypt Temple Shrine-Tampa. For the last seven years he has enjoyed serving as a Volunteer and Ambassador for St. Joseph Medical Center-Carondelet Health. He was preceded in death by Ruth, his wife of 61 years, and their daughter Mary. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Scott and Elizabeth Sander of Radnor, PA., his daughter and son-in-law Jane and Mike Groves of Leawood, KS., grandchildren Mallory Cook, Robin Thomas, Scott Sander, Jr., Lisa Deghand, and Lori Dickman and great- grandchildren Claire, James, Amanda, Andrew, Craig, Emma, Ryan and Fiona.
The family would like special recognition to go to Oscar, Moni and Luciana Scannapieco, who are a special gift to our family, and to Dad’s dear friends and neighbors Wright and Monte Summers. Donations may be made to St. Joseph Medical Center Auxiliary.
