Bob Chaney was born on December 27, 1931 and passed away May 20, 2017 while surrounded by his loving family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cuba and Francis; daughter, Mary Francis; son, Richard; brother, Jack and his loving wife of 56 years, Ethel. He is survived by his children, Sheryl Gulley (David Lundberg), Robert Jr. (Sandy), Donald (Cathy); brother, Richard; grandchildren, Laura Gulley, Michelle Wiederin (Jesse), Jake Chaney, Rachel Chaney and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bob was born in Fargo, ND and moved to the Kansas City area early in life. He attended Shawnee Mission High School and met Ethel, soon after they were married and he was called by the Army to serve in Korea. While Bob and Ethel worked on starting a family they bought a home in Prairie Village, KS where they lived for 59 years.
Bob worked for Delco Battery in Olathe, KS for 45 years. Bob cared for his family in the deepest sense. There were yearly vacations to the Ozarks, vacations to Texas to see his family, buying a horse for his kids, buying several boats for vacations and making “to the Ozarks” part of our vocabulary. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bob and Ethel also enjoyed going to the casinos and soon yearly trips to Las Vegas with family and friends became a tradition. After his wife retired they discovered camping and went from tents to popup trailer camping, this became the joy of their life and even after Ethel was gone, Bob continued to camp. He was usually never alone as many good friends would join him year after year.
Bob will be remembered as a strong and loving father and grandfather, the first and last one at the party, always having a good time while making sure everyone else was having a good time too.
