Robert (Bob) Eugene Cornelius passed away peacefully Monday, March 21, 2016 in Maumelle, Arkansas.
He was born on March 20, 1927 in Kansas City, Kansas to Eugene and Hazel Cornelius. He grew up in the Kansas City area and Texas along with his brother, Ed and sister Patricia (Pat). He married Joy Jane Roland on August 11, 1946 in Anderson, Indiana. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Martha Jane Cornelius and brother, Edward Scott Cornelius.
Bob was a Navy veteran of World War II. He worked for the Kansas City Star, The Kansas, The Labor Beacon, Lowell Press, and U S Postal Service. He was the oldest living charter member of Central Church of the Nazarene, Lenexa, Kansas.
Bob enjoyed fishing, playing golf, any time spent with his grandchildren, and traveling with Joy and three other couples, who were lifetime friends from church.
Bob is survived by a daughter, Sandra Cornelius Phillips of Maumelle, AR, two grandchildren, Jason Phillips and Julia Acosta (Herschel) of Dallas, TX, two great grandchildren, Sophia and Levi Acosta of Dallas, TX, a sister, Patricia Murphy of San Antonio, TX, and many nieces and nephews.
Service arrangements are being handled by Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens in Overland Park, KS.
A visitation will be held from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Tuesday, March 29 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, with funeral service on Wednesday, March 30 at 11 A.M. at the same location.
Memorials may be made to Central Church of the Nazarene, Lenexa, KS, or the Alzheimer's Association.
