Robert Crabtree

June 16, 1931 — April 1, 2008

Robert G. Crabtree, age 76, of Overland Park, KS passed away Tuesday April 1, 2008 at Manor Care of Overland Park.

Bob was born June 16, 1931. He was raised by his parents, Myrtle and LB, in Nevada, MO. Mr. Crabtree graduated with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri. At MU, as an associate professor in the School of Engineering, he met, courted, and married Clara Jean Elliott. They moved to Kansas City in 1955, where Bob was employed by HNTB. Bob and CJ celebrated their 50th Anniversary in June 2005. They traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries. He particularly loved the luxury of cruising.

In Pre-retirement, some 10 years ago, Bob was Principal and CEO of Harrington and Cortelyou, Inc. Consulting Engineers which he joined in 1976. While at H and C, he was able to pursue a career that he truly loved doing, design and consulting. He loved it so much that he only truly ?retired? when forced to stop driving just a couple years ago. Due to his dedication to his profession, Bob served at one time as President of the MO chapter of ACEC (American Council of Engineering Companies-Missouri). He was also a member of the ASCE, AREMA, MSPE, and was a distinguished member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1999, Bob was awarded the honor of Distinguished Alumni by the Academy of Civil Engineering at MU ? Columbia. He was registered to conduct business in 12 states.

Bob Crabtree is preceded in death by his mother Myrtle, and his father L.B. He is survived by his wife Clara Jean, son Christopher and his wife Felicity, and Grandchildren Elliott Christopher and Cienna Jewel.

Bob received his education the old fashioned way ? he worked for it. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, Bob would have appreciated contributions to his grandchildren?s education fund. Thank you from his family.

Memorial Services will be at 1:00 PM April 4, at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf.
