Robert W. Haase, Sr., 92, of Overland Park, Ks, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lorena, and his wife, Arlene. He is survived by son, Bob (Elaine) and their children, Betsy and Lori; son Phil (Judy); and stepson, Curt Elder (Kris) and their children, Ian and Evan. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
Robert was born in Kansas City, Mo, and graduated with honors from Southwest High School in 1937. He attended Cornell University and graduated cum laude in 1941 with a degree in mechanical engineering and a Navy ROTC commission. He was a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. Robert began his business career as a manufacturing sales engineer in Ohio before going on active military duty as a Navy engineering officer in late 1943. He spent two and one half years stationed in the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard working on power systems for the battleship and carrier fleets. He was honorably discharged in 1946, and moved to Kansas City where he resumed his business career.
He started a partnership, Midwestern Power Equipment Company, in 1948 which represented a number of major industrial machinery companies designing equipment and applications for the power and processing industries. He was also involved with several successor companies that continued to provide engineered services and equipment until his retirement in 1998. Robert had a number of hobbies including golf, flying, sailing, bridge, travel, and crossword puzzles. He loved to host holiday and birthday celebrations, and worked on a wide variety of household projects.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2013, at D. W. Newcomer's Sons - Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, Ks, 66210. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Good Samaritan Society of Olathe or a charity of your choice.
