Mr. Robert Hagans

September 4, 1926 — May 21, 2012

Robert F. Hagans, 85, Overland Park, KS, died May 21 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born September 4, 1926 to Frank A. Hagans and Velma Morris Hagans in Augusta, KS. He attended public school in Marion, KS, graduating from Marion High School in 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater with the U.S. Navy for two years and then graduated from Kansas State University in 1950. His career included Ford, Bacon & Davis Construction Co. in Louisiana, Hallmark Card and Pay Way Feed Mills, Inc. in Kansas City, Central Soya Company in Indiana, finishing his business career as Chairman and CEO of Unitog Company in Kansas City.
Robert married M. Joanne Wright on December 26, 1950. Two children, Robin Ann and Karen Jo were born to the couple. Joanne predeceased Bob in 1993. Bob later married Marcia Naughton.
Bob was active in his community. He was a member of Lafayette Masonic Lodge, Manhattan, KS; Abdallah Shrine Temple, Rotary Club, Brookridge Country Club and many service organizations in Kansas City. He was also member of the President's Club at Kansas State University where he was awarded the Alumni Fellow for the School of Business, Alumni Medallion Award and the Foundation Award for Leadership. Over the years he served on many Boards of Directors and fundraising campaigns for KSU.
In Bob's own words, he considered himself a very lucky man. He was lucky to have a wonderful family, lucky to have a career he loved, lucky because he believed in the basic principles of integrity, dedication to duty (be it company or country), hard work, time for play, and staying with a project or idea until it was won. His family would add that he was lucky to spend so much of his life on a golf course. Bob enriched many lives with his skills and generosity.
Bob is survived by his wife of 19 years, Marcia; his daughters Robin Maupin (Charles, deceased) and Karen Reyes (Joe), his sister, Jean Case (Alex, deceased), Marcia's children, Cathy Holefelder (Mark) and Marc Naughton (Janise), four grandchildren (Dustin Steppe (Jessica) and Kyle Steppe (Kristen), Nicole and Cody Maupin, three step-granchildren Jeff Naughton (Dana), Jennifer and Kristen Naughton, two nieces and a nephew.
