Robert Carl Hanson, “Uncle Bob”, was born in Kansas City, Mo on October 10th 1930. Son of Floyd and Loretta Hanson. I don’t know much of his early years, but know that he enlisted in the U.S. Army just after his 21st birthday in 1951. He was assigned to the European theatre in Germany as an infantryman, where he met his future wife of 54 years, Gabrielle. Once discharged from active duty, he returned to Kansas City and went to school to become an engineering draftsman. Newly married, he began his career with Burns and McDonald engineering firm and took part in the design and building of several large hydro-electric plants in Missouri. He would eventually work for that company for over 30 years. Uncle Bob always had a great love of the outdoors and was an avid camper, boater, and shooter. He and my aunt spent many a weekend out by, and on the water, especially around the Lake of the Ozarks. My uncle fell in love with this region of Missouri during his design work with B&M, eventually buying a lakeside cabin near Camdenton, Mo. There are many fond memories of time with my uncle there in the Ozarks. I will always remember his passion for the outdoors, the time he found an injured Bluejay and nursed it back to health, the lake, automobiles, firearms, but will mostly remember his enduring love for “his girl” my aunt Gabrielle. Uncle Bob, you will be missed.
