Robert Dean "Haystack" Houseman passed away on March 29, 2024 in Liberty, Missouri at the age of 73. Born on March 7, 1951 in Kansas City, Kansas, he was a man known for his caring nature, generosity, kindness, and being just a tad bit ornery.
A proud Navy Veteran (1969-1973), Robert exemplified the virtues of loyalty and dedication to his country and the people around him. After his military service, he became the owner/operator of Houseman Hauling Company, as well as an Operating Engineer at Houseman Ready Mix. He gave back to his community, fundraising for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Kansas City and Kansas City Public Television.
Haystack's personal life was filled with love. He enjoyed the time spent with family and friends attending their school and sports activities, watching NASCAR (cheering on his man, Chase), fishing, woodcarving, and playing cards and board games. Countless children of all ages looked forward to cards and stickers in the mail from Haystack on birthdays and holidays. All who met Haystack knew he was always ready to lend a helping hand or hug.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Debbie Houseman; his siblings Chris Crooks and Pete Houseman (wife, Martha); his daughter Amy Parker (husband, Mike); his cherished grandchildren Maggie, Sam, and Michaela Parker; and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith Houseman.
A celebration of life will be held on April 5, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. at Johnson County Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 62210. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Operation Homefront or Homes For Our Troops.
Haystack's family extends their sincere gratitude to each person who cared for and spent time with Haystack and Debbie over the years. There are no words adequate for the extraordinary impact these sacrifices had on the whole family, but especially Haystack in his last few years.
Haystack's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will be forever etched in the hearts of those who knew him: a man who was not just a presence in our lives, but a gift to be cherished.
