Robert Nolan Ice, Jr.
Robert N. Ice, Jr., age 92, of Newcastle, Washington, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at his home. Funeral services will be 2pm, Sunday, September 25, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. A brief reception will follow the funeral service at the chapel. Burial will be 11am Monday, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
"Bob" was born May 30, 1919 in Topeka, Kansas, the oldest of two children, to Robert and Lucille Ice. He graduated Topeka High School in 1937, where he met his devoted wife, Kathleen (Clary). High school sweethearts, Bob and Kathleen's relationship spanned over 65 years before Kathleen passed away in 2001. Bob followed his father's footsteps into the bakery business in Topeka, before enlisting in the Army Air Force and serving as a B-17 navigator stationed in England. Both he and Kathleen were active members of the Overland Park Church of Christ for many years. After the war, Bob returned to the bakery business before enjoying a second long career in the car business, last employed by Don Stein Buick in Overland Park.
Bob is survived by: two sons, Bob Ice and wife, Joanne, New Mexico and Larry Ice and wife, Kathy, Newcastle, WA; 12 grandchildren, Laurie, Tamara, Karyn, Robert (Nick), Katie, Lauren, Timothy, Briana, Malia, Matt, Mike and Colleen; and his sister Betty Merryman, Topeka, KS.
