Robert Lee Love III (84) died peacefully on January 28, 2020 at home with his family by his side. He was born in San Francisco to Robert Lee Love, Jr. & Louise Love and in his younger years moved with his family all over the Midwest. Bob graduated from KU in 1957 with a BS in Engineering and later from Stevens Institute of Technology with an MS. Bob spent most of his working years in New Jersey working for Exxon Research & Engineering (now EXXONMOBIL). His work assignments brought him to Germany, where he met his wife of 53+ years, Birgit. He also lived and worked in Italy, Libya, Venezuela and Aruba and, with his family in, Canada, Japan, Germany, France & the U.K.
Beside his family, Bob’s big loves in life were intellectual conversations, good food and wine, reading mystery and scifi novels, creating and baking delicious desserts and, in his younger years, flying his airplane. He held a private pilot’s license with an instrument rating and owned two Beechcraft airplanes.
After retiring from EXXON, Bob moved his family to Overland Park, KS. He then worked several years for the EPA in Kansas City as part of AARP Foundation Back-to-Work 50+ program.
Bob is survived by his wife, Birgit, of the home, his sons R. Christopher Love (Ginny) of Lawrence, KS and Paul A. Love (Anna) of Summit, N.J. as well as grandsons Miles and Alexander. Survivors also include his brother, Paul E., of Tulsa, OK, two nieces & several cousins.
Bob will be sorely missed by his family as well as the many friends who eagerly anticipated and enjoyed his dessert creations. As a pastry chef & baker, he was unsurpassed. He will also be missed by his two cats.
Private interment on January 30. The family will hold a Celebration of Life event at a date to be announced. Please check with family for details.
