Robert Nelson Vaughn of Olathe, Kan., went home to be with his Lord and Savior on the 16th of January, 2010. Born June 15, 1923, he was the oldest of 13 children, a Veteran of WWII. He was a gunner on a tank destroyer and a foot soldier until he was honorably discharged in 1945. Once back from the war, he attended school to become an auto body repairman. A career that would span nearly 50 years until he retired in his early 70s. As a child growing up during the Depression, he began working at the age of nine, along with his younger brother and best friend Ed, to help support their family. Dad loved his family deeply and knew us by the nicknames he gave us. He leaves behind six children, Dale (Squirt) Vaughn, Keith (Flutter) Vaughn, Janice (Yaddo) Murray, Marcia (Ding) Miller, Evelyn (Lisa) Lenard and Sharon (Kid) Pacheco, 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He also leaves behind three sisters, LaVerta, Verna and Joan, two brothers Riley and Bill and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He loved being a father and grandfather. We love you and miss you more than you could ever know Dad, but we know you are there, in heaven with loved ones you have missed for so long, rejoicing and singing praises to the Lord free from pain and sorrow. We are all better people for having you in our lives and we thank you. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at D.W.
