Robert Oscar Brown, born in Manly, Iowa, on May 19, 1914, the son of Scott O and Mabel C Brown, died on May 30, 2008, in Papillion, Neb.
After living in Overland Park, Kan., for over 40 years, he moved to Papillion, Neb. He attended high school in Manly, Iowa and upon graduation, attended Iowa State University, where he received a degree in civil engineering in 1937. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He married his college sweetheart, Eleanor Hockett, on October 23, 1937. He then worked for 40 years for Standard Oil of Indiana and the Amoco Oil Company as Distribution Manager. They lived in many wonderful places during that time. He retired in 1977. He was an active member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park and was an avid golfer. He was named Outstanding Senior Golfer in Kansas City in 1987. Bob was an avid bridge player and longtime Green Bay Packer fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Hockett Brown, his parents, Scott and Mabel Brown, and his brother James Scott Brown. He is survived by his wife, Betty Reiher Brown, whom he married in 1998. They loved traveling, bridge and enjoying their families. They had eight years together before failing health separated them. Betty's family included three children and seven grandchildren.
Robert is survived by his son Robert Scott (Kay) Brown and daughter Susan Brown (Daryl) Pleggenkuhle; grandchildren Todd (Tonya) Pleggenkuhle, Scott (Debbie) Brown, Joel (Paulette) Brown, Melissa Pleggenkuhle (Lyndon) Hallinan, Julie Brown and significant other, Alonzo Jones; great grandchildren Jordan and Courtney Pleggenkuhle, Tristan and Eleanor Brown, and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Hollis Foundation, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, or Iowa State University College of Engineering.
Memorials given to the family will be divided among the three unless a specific memorial is designated. Visitation will be at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., on Thursday, June 5, from 6-8 p.m. The memorial service will be at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave., on Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m.
