Robert Lee Oakes, age 77, Overland Park, Kan., passed on into the loving arms of his beloved wife Vi, on August 22, 2007.
Robert was born in Kansas City, Mo., on October 30, 1929, to Harley and Ella (Wolcott) Oakes. He graduated from Westport High School in 1946. He was called and served in the army twice. He found and married the love of his life (Vi) in 1952 and spent 45 wonderful years with her. Robert was a Vice President of Universal Underwriters, where he was innovative in designing and incorporating new concepts and programs. Upon retirement, Robert enjoyed his family, grandcats, genealogy and woodworking.
He is survived by two daughters who love and adore him. Janet Hataway and spouse Jim, of Overland Park, Kan., and Debra E. Oakes of the home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association.
A celebration of his life will be 2 p.m. Monday, August 27, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
