Robert Shibe was born in 1927 in Oskaloosa, KS to Arthur Nelson Shibe and Agnes (Howard) Shibe. He attended Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, KS, graduating in 1945 when he was drafted into the army during WWII. He served in the Philippines where he worked in radio-teletype operations and maintenance. After the war, he received an associate's degree from Kansas City Kansas Community College and then attended classes at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
Robert married Mildred Stubler in 1949 and settled in Shawnee, KS to raise five children. He worked for General Motors until 1957 when he went to work for Allied Signal for 35 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a long-time member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Robert was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Mildred (Stubler) Shibe; his brother, James Shibe; his sister, Margaret Hudgens Huebner; and, his granddaughter Sara Chappell Deines. He is survived by his sister, Opal Fritts; his daughters, Gloria Liposchak, Peggy Chappell, Sandi Steinbach, and Gail Barnhart; his son, Kenneth Shibe; his 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Graveside service will be held at Shawnee Mission Memory Garden, 23215 W 75th St, Shawnee, KS, on Saturday, August 20th at 10:00 AM.
