Robert William VanLandingham died October 27, 2022. Born in Morgantown, West Virginia September 20, 1932, Bob celebrated his 90th birthday with his children, grandchildren, his brother, Tom, and other extended relatives. Bob was never happier than surrounded by his family. In fact, his last day in the hospital Bob called a "party" as so many people gathered to be with him.
Bob grew up in Morgantown where his father, AH (Van) was an Agricultural Chemistry professor at West Virginia University. In May 1954, Bob graduated from the university, married Wilma Stevens and was commissioned into the Air Force as a pilot that same week. His mother, Alice, who grew up near Salina, Kansas, graduated from Emporia State and was a community organizer. Alice became the national president of AARP in the 70's. Bob took after his mother in his love for bringing people together.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed helping people from all walks of life as well as organizing and hosting parties and events, school functions, company events. Running political campaigns for friends, neighbors, and associates were another opportunity for Bob to meet and help people. In addition, Bob always looked for opportunities to cut the rug - ballroom, big- band, square dancing, disco - he loved it all. His family has great stories about Bob dancing. Another hobby for Bob was boating where he could delight in being with friends and family.
Bob's started his sales representative career at Cutler-Hammer in 1957 that spanned 20 years . His Cutler-Hammer days took the family from Buffalo, NY to Birmingham, AL in 1966, and finally to Kansas City in 1972. Bob and Wilma started their own business, Logic Control Sales (Logic Inc now), in industrial automation in 1981. Bob retired in 1997 while his sons, Don and Dave, continue to grow Logic. Bob always spoke with pride, and occasional tears, that three of his grandchildren are continuing the business.
Bob is survived by his children, Don, David, and Sue as well as 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Recently, Bob lived in at Tallgrass Creek Senior Living.
Bob’s memorial service will November 22 at 11 AM at the Church of the Resurrection, Wesley Chapel 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. Reception and lunch will follow the service.
