ROBERT J. WAGNER
Bob, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2012, at Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, MO.
He was born, January 17, 1925 in Ottawa, IL, the youngest of nine children. Upon graduation from high school in 1943 he enlisted in the Army receiving special training in radio intercept work. Bob was first deployed to Europe to provide communication support for General Patton and was later stationed in Japan for occupation duty.
After the war Bob met Jo Ann Zell at a church softball game and they married in 1947. The couple moved to Peoria, IL. so Bob could attend Bradley University. Upon graduation they stayed in Peoria, where their four children were born.
A career move brought the family to the Shawnee Mission, KS area in 1960. Bob worked in management for the clothing retailer, Woolf Brothers, for nearly 30 years. As a member of Kiwanis, Bob was in charge of the annual pancake day for many years. A longtime member of Countryside Christian Church, Bob served as a deacon and co-chaired the Religious Education Department with Jo. He also enjoyed bowling in the church league. Bob was elected to the District 110 school board for S.M. Schools in the 1960's. Lifelong friendships were formed through the church and the 110 board.
After retirement Bob and Jo volunteered at Tall Oaks Christian Camp. Upon moving to the Foxwood Springs community, Bob helped at the corner store, provided transportation for residents' appointments, served on committees for his parish, and worked tirelessly for Foxwood's annual fall festival.
Bob and Jo loved taking camping trips and spending time with their family. They enjoyed potluck dinners, cruises, and gatherings with their many good friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn, son William, his parents, brothers, and sisters. He is survived by his daughters Linda (John) Coxon, Margaret, son Richard (Peg), daughter-in-law Susan, six grandchildren, two great granddaughters, and other family members.
