On Tuesday, October 20, 2020, Robert (Bob) Dale Hanna of Merriam, KS, loving father of three children, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 79.
Dad was born on July 12, 1941 in Kansas City, MO to Roy and Bertha (Hanebaum) Hanna. He attended Iowa State University in Ames and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business. Over his career, Dad worked in retail and wholesale hardware, including owning his own hardware store in Olathe, KS. After his retirement, Dad worked as a handyman doing carpentry and other home repairs. He could fix anything.
Dad had a passion for the outdoors, particularly the mountains of Colorado, and bird watching. He was particularly enamored with hummingbirds. He also loved music, both enjoying other’s music and learning to play piano by ear. He was an Eagle Scout, a youth baseball coach to his son, a dog sitter, and even dabbled in building a mammoth swing set for his two grandsons. Most of all though, he will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his heart of gold. Dad would drop anything to help his family and friends, a quality he carried throughout his life.
Dad was preceded in death by his father, Roy, and his mother, Bertha. He is survived by his three children, Betsy, Steve, and Marcy along with their mother Lucia Hanna, grandsons Brennan and Zach, his son-in-law James Dykstal, and his daughter-in-law Jessica Hanna. He is also survived by his brother RJ and his wife Ginny, and his niece Kathy and nephew Doug. He will also be missed by his furry buddies – Hosmer, Hudson, Milo, Leela, Mouser. Miss Peeps, Lilly, and Leo.
