Roger Boeger

March 30, 1938 — October 26, 2018

Roger C. Boeger, 80, passed away October 26, 2018.

Roger graduated from York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois in 1955.  He was Captain and Quarterback of the football team, ran track, started on the Varsity Basketball team, and was Homecoming King.  He received a scholarship to play football at Kansas University, which brought him to the Kansas City area where he remained until his passing.  At KU, he played football, majored in Industrial Management, was a member of the PHI GAMMA DELTA Fraternity, ALPHA KAPPA PSI, K Club, SAM, was the Senior Calendar Publisher and was an Officer (Lieutenant) in the Army R.O.T.C.

He graduated in 1960; he married Peggy McCormack and was married for 17 years, and had three boys, Bret, Brian and Chad.  In 1960, he served at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as Lieutenant and then moved back to Kansas City and retired as a Captain in the Army.

He became involved in Life Insurance Sales in 1964 and was very successful, so much so, that he became the General Agent for Connecticut Mutual Life and took over the Kansas City agency in 1967.  This started the era of “The Boeger Agency” and he propelled the agency to become the most successful Connecticut Mutual Office in the country through the 1970’s and 1980’s.  Roger recruited some of the most successful agents in the country and through his motto of non-captivity; he wanted to earn the business with best in class products and services provided by his agency along with office space and resources.  The Boeger Agency became a legend in Kansas City and covered all of Kansas and the Western part of Missouri with over 140 agents and 100 employees.  Many people will say, even today that he was legendary and made a lasting impression on everyone he met.

The Agency flourished until 1996 when MassMutual bought Connecticut Mutual and Roger retired.  In 1997, he took a job with MetLife, managed the Kansas City Offices for five years, and was tasked with consolidating those offices to its current office today.  Roger married again, Carol (24 years), (Tracy Stanley, stepdaughter) and Jeanne (3 years) and then finally met his love, Sharon Arney in 2005 and they remained best friends and companions up to his passing.  He had two step children from Sharon, Todd and Angela.  Roger lived his life on his own terms; he enjoyed at his place in the country with Sharon and continued to work from home until he passed.  He loved dogs, he and Sharon had seven and he loved giving them treats, watching old movies and birds from his dining room table.

Roger will be missed and never forgotten having a lasting impact on his family, friends, and acquaintances in Kansas City and across the country.   Roger was a loving husband and father to all of his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren.

He was survived by his wife, Sharon; sister, Nancy Axen and Brother-In-Law Geary Axen; Children: Bret, Brian, Chad (and Anna) Boeger, Tracy (and Bob) Moore; Todd (and Stacy) Arney; Angela (and Tracy) Hatcher; Grandchildren: Ted, Phoebe, Bryce, Carsten, Lance, Laney and Sophie Boeger; Jessica, Kyle and Nick Stanley; Lauren, Ealise, Ann and Luke Arney; Katlin, Madison and Brandan Hatcher; Great Grandchildren: Bret Finnley Boeger and Valentino Carpenter; along with other close friends and family members.
