Rolland Mangold

Mr. Rolland H. Mangold, 90, of Overland Park, KS passed away on Thursday, December 20th, 2012 at Saint Luke's Hospital South.
Rolland (Rollie) was the son of Arthur Mangold and Florence Gordon and was born June 25, 1922 in Gretna, NE. He entered the University of Nebraska and received his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy. After briefly working as a pharmacist in Nebraska and Iowa, he decided to pursue a new career in pharmaceutical sales with Burroughs Wellcome in 1946. His success in this new occupation was clear and his numerous moves were accompanied by promotions ultimately to Regional Sales Manager. Rollie retired after 40 years of service to the company. His personable manner and phenomenal ability to remember people's names (even many years later) served him well in his professional and personal life.
Rollie married Grace Voyce in 1948 to whom he was married for 41years until her passing. Rollie and Grace had two sons, Joel and James. Rollie then married Betty Jo Barrett in 1989 and they enjoyed traveling together and the designing of their new home in the Lion's Gate community in Overland Park until Betty Jo's passing in 2011. Rollie played tennis regularly at the racquet club and enjoyed the competition and camaraderie, even when his knees and shoulder didn't always cooperate. Unfortunately the nagging shoulder problem ultimately spoiled the fun. He attended the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood and had many good friends there. In recent years he became increasingly involved in Church group activities being a regular participant in the "Grief Group", helping others deal with their loses. Most recently his many friends from the Church helped Rolland celebrate his 90th birthday.
Rollie is dearly loved and greatly missed by his many friends and his family, including his son James and his wife Bonnie and their children Kelly and Bryan, step-sons Roger and Keith Barrett and Keith's wife Susan, and their children Carol, Lisa and Mary. Rollie is survived by his sister Beulah, but was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Edwin, and his sisters Helen, Phyllis and Marie.
A memorial service will be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday January 5, 2013 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel (11200 Metcalf Avenue) with Rev. Steve Langhofer conducting the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection.
