Ronald (Ron) Thompson completed his life journey on September 12, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. A proud dad, a loving grandpa, a dedicated teacher, and a supportive elementary school principal, Ron organized his life around helping others. He fought a courageous eleven-year battle with cancer.
Born in Pittsburg, Kansas on December 1, 1947, he was preceded in death by his parents James C. Thompson, Jr., and Minnie K. Thompson. Ron earned his B.S. in Education from Kansas State College of Pittsburg and his Master's of Science degree from Emporia State. He taught elementary school in Topeka, Edwardsville and Olathe before going on to lead several elementary schools as principal in the Olathe School District. Upon retirement, Ron went on to teach at William A. White in Kansas City, KS.
Ron is survived by his brother Jim Thompson of Colleyville, Texas and his sons Ross Thompson (wife Peggy) and Barry Thompson (wife Kristy) both of Olathe. He leaves five adoring grandchildren: Sydney, William, Andrew, Kayla, and Courtney.
A private celebration of Ron's life is scheduled for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to the Great Plains S.P.C.A. in Merriam, Kansas.
The family also wishes to thank the University of Kansas Cancer Center for their many years of care and the wonderful nurses from Kansas City Hospice for their kind support.
