Rose Mary Herz-Asbury, daughter of Zeno Herz and Ruth Middleton Herz, was born on September 15, 1921. She passed away on June 30, 2016.
There were four siblings: Twin sister Ruth, brothers Richard and Frank.
Granddaughter of infamous, storied Nebraska outlaw Doc Middleton.
Born and raised in Claycomo, Missouri until she married Roy Asbury.
Married to Army officer Colonel Roy W. Asbury in 1943 before he was distinguished in the Normandy invasion with a battlefield commission.
Together they had four children, Dennis, Donald, Joyce and Dustin.
Rose and her family lived in 12 locations during Roy’s service; including, 3 years at the Lakenheath Air Base in England, also Oklahoma, Washington, California three places, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, and New York.
She was intelligent, attentive, nurturing, strong and reliable, a professional mother and wonderful cook. Her pastries and cookies were legendary.
Rose loved the KC Chiefs and Royals, and always watched their games if possible.
Rose was a life-long devout Catholic, and raised her family with Catholic values and traditions.
She had a sweet disposition and a great sense of humor, and everyone loved sitting at her table for endless good laughs late into the night.
Rose spent the last 52 years of her life, after Roy retired from the Army, as the guiding light of the family in Olathe, Kansas.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday July 5 from 5-7pm, with a Rosary at 7pm, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, OP, KS. A funeral service will be on Wednesday July 6 at 10am at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 900 S Honeysuckle Dr, Olathe, KS 66061.
Burial to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
