Rose Marie Sprague, age 82, of Olathe, KS passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. She was born July 26, 1941, in Columbus, KS, the daughter of Charles Edward and Bernice Marie Houser. In elementary school, Rose Marie was taught by her mother in a one-room rural schoolhouse. She graduated from Columbus High School and attended Pittsburg State University. Rose Marie and her good friend Jean Elda (Royce) Miller worked at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville, OK and Denver, CO. Through that friendship, she met Jean Elda’s cousin, Bill Sprague. She and Bill were united in marriage on November 23, 1962, in Columbus, KS. They lived in Wichita, KS, St. Louis, MO and eventually landed in Overland Park, KS where they raised their family. Rose Marie did title work for Security Land Title until she retired in 1998.
Rose Marie and Bill spent two years in the Washinton, DC area before returning to Overland Park and moving to Louisburg, KS. Rose Marie and Bill enjoyed traveling to Europe and throughout the United States with family and friends. Their home at Lake of the Ozarks hosted many family gatherings.
After Bill’s death, Rose Marie continued to enjoy a fulfilling life. She volunteered weekly at St. Luke’s South Hospital. She continued her adventurous travels with friends and family. Rose Marie enjoyed playing cards and bunco, going to lunches, and having Chiefs watch parties with her many friend groups she built through the years. She loved walking her beloved dog Quincy through the neighborhood. She regularly attended Church of the Resurrection.
Rose Marie is survived by her son, William Bradley and Kay Sprague, Shawnee, KS; her daughter, Pamela Marie and Robb White, Overland Park, KS; her four grandchildren, Caleb Henry (Audrey) White, Overland Park, KS; William Zachary White (fiancée Olivia Eggleston), Kansas City, MO; Liam Bradley Sprague, Independence, MO; and Maya Elizabeth Sprague, Shawnee, KS; and nieces and nephews. Rose Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and her two brothers, Charles, and Dan Houser.
Services will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66210 on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Visitation will be from 11:00AM to 12:00 PM. Funeral will be at noon with reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Great Plains SPCA Honor/Memorial Donations (salsalabs.org) or Harvesters Community Food Network Make A Gift - Harvesters.
