Rose Wilson

June 13, 1914 — November 23, 2015

Rose Carbaugh Wilson, age 101, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2015, at the Health Center of Claridge Court in Prairie Village, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry and her three spirited and independent sisters: MaryL Vaughan of Burbank, California; Violet Jandeska and Goldie Stratton, both of the Chicago area.

She is survived by her three daughters: Janice of Sacramento, California; Margaret of Roeland Park,Kansas; and Susan of Kansas City, Kansas; and by her two grandchildren, Rachel Neville and husband Keith Swindle of Honolulu, Hawaii; Anne Neville and husband Diego Bonilla, and grandchild Ellie of Sacramento, California.

Our mom and her sisters were born in Seymour, Iowa.  When each graduated, they came to live with relatives in Chicago.  There, at St. Johns Methodist Church, mom met Harry Wilson, a handsome, warm and funny Scotsman.  They were married in 1936 and spent thirty more years in Chicago.  In 1966, they moved to Prairie Village and became members of the Yankie First Raitters class at Old Mission United  Methodist Church in Fairway. Mom was the last surviving member of the original class.

Mom was a homemaker extraordinaire and was actively involved in PTA, Bank Parents, Brownies and Girl Scouts. (We remember that as a Girl Scout Leader, she told us that instead of asking if someone wanted to buy some Girl Scout cookies, we should ask our customers for a $ donation and receive a free box of cookies! ) She was very creative with crafts and was an excellent seamstress, still life painter, and an accomplished pianist. Mom kept up with her daily journal writing until she was no longer able to.  My parents were world travelers through Elderhostel programs and continued to learn throughout their lives.

A Remembrance Tea will be held at Claridge Court, Sunday, December 6th at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Old Mission United Methodist Church, 5519 State Park Road, Fairway, KS 66205.
