Rowena Hutchinson

Rowena Hutchinson of Overland Park, KS passed away March 12, 2021.  She was born in Joplin, MO, 96 years ago on January 13, 1925.  Rowena was married to the love of her life, her husband Merrill, for 62 years.  They married in Benton County, AR on July 27, 1949 until his passing October 18, 2011.  They had three children - Dean, Dana and Dee Ann.

Rowena worked at Camp Crowder, TWA, and Duff & Rep before starting her family.  She stayed home, always being there for her children, then returned to work at JC Penny retiring in 1987.

Rowena cherished the trips the went on with her family.  She remembered the fun and great places she visited her entire life.  She loved heading down to their lake home on holidays and weekends.  She was always with family, which brought her the most joy.  She was a huge KU Jayhawk and KC Chief fan, never missing a game.

Rowena was a faithful member of Overland Park Christian Church since 1958.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill; daughter, Dana Riedel; mother, Nora Janes; father, Fred Janes and sister, Jackie Carter.  Survivors include her son, Dean and Debbi Hutchinson, daughter, Dee Ann and Dennis Villarreal, son-in-law, Robert Riedel; eight grandchildren, Doug and Jennifer Hutchinson; David and Melanie Hutchinson; Ryan and Courtney Riedel; Deanna and Shawn Rouen; Renee Riedel; Rusty Riedel; Dustin Villarreal and Rachael Riedel.  Six great grandchildren, Sadie Riedel, Cole and Cooper Hutchinson, Addison and Braxton Hutchinson and Kate Rouen.

Contributions may be made to the Overland Park Christian Church.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday March 18, 2021 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens.  Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service.
